Francis Howell Central, John Burroughs, Lafayette and St. Joseph's all have players in the singles and doubles state semifinals, which are set for Saturday in Springfield, Mo.
Area players have a shot to win in each division of the Class 2 and Class 1 girls tennis state tournaments.
Championship rounds for the Class 1 and 2 tournaments are Friday and Saturday for Class 3 at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
The Lancers will face Bolivar in the Class 1 semifinals at 9 a.m. Halloween morning at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
"We were mentally prepared," Ali Kennedy said. "I think one of the differences from the other times we played them was that we were more active at the net."
"Always remember where you came from," former St. Joseph's athletics director Michaela Witcher said Saturday. "One of the best schools in the country."
The Class 3 District 1 girls tennis tournament was played at Kirkwood Park.
"I started playing at (age) 5. I put that number on my left hand so I could see it every time I bounced the ball to serve,” Emily Heller said.
The Lancers (11-1) will get huge challenges on back-to-back days as they play Sept. 30 at St. Joseph’s and Oct. 1 at John Burroughs.
