ST. LOUIS — Detectives on Monday investigated the death of a woman found in a gangway near Grand Boulevard and Chippewa Street.
The woman's body was discovered around 10 a.m. near an abandoned house in the 3800 block of Virginia Avenue in Dutchtown, police said.
A neighbor came across the woman's body, and initially mistook her for a mannequin, police said.
"They did a double take and that's when they contacted our department," said Lt. Michael Scego. He said investigators had not identified the woman and didn't have an estimate for her age. An autopsy is expected.
Officials have also not determined whether the woman was a resident of Dutchtown.
The house on Virginia had broken windows and peeling paint; its doorway was boarded shut. An old dining room chair was the only thing on the porch.
