ST. LOUIS — Federal authorities have charged a Missouri man for making racist threats of physical harm against employees of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People here in late 2023.
Darryl Jaspering, 62, of Warrenton wrote a message on the NAACP's contact page on Dec. 23, 2023 threatening to harm employees with a dangerous weapon because of their race, the U.S. Justice Department said in a news release.
Jaspering was indicted Dec. 18 in St. Louis federal court with one count of transmitting threatening communications and one count of interference with federally protected activities.
The indictment was unsealed Thursday when Jaspering was released from custody after federal authorities removed any firearms from his home.
Jaspering faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for the charge of transmitting threatening communications.
