O’FALLON, Mo. — The city of O’Fallon, Mo., is poised to see a shake-up of its city council as two incumbents opted to not seek re-election and two other incumbents are being challenged for their seats.
Filing for the April 8 election opened Dec. 10 and officially closed Tuesday at 5 p.m. for candidates hoping to win seats on city councils, school boards and other municipal government boards throughout Missouri.
In the city of O’Fallon, incumbent mayor Bill Hennessy is running for re-election. He will be joined on the ballot by the 10 people running for five seats on the non-partisan city council.
In Ward 1 there is a three-person race for the seat currently held by Deana Smith, who did not file for re-election. Newcomers Oliver Wexler and John Roth have filed to fun, as has Arnie Dienoff, who has run unsuccessfully before. Ward 1 includes portions of the city east of South Main Street, Highway K and Old Highway 79.

In Ward 2, Brian Boyer was the lone candidate to file. He is seeking the seat currently held by Tom “Duke” Herweck, who is not seeking re-election. Ward 2 includes neighborhoods east of Highway K, south of Highway 364 and north of Interstate 64.
In Ward 3, incumbent Steve Koskela has drawn two challengers in his re-election bid. Koskela is facing off against Paul Steiner and Rose Zuk, a frequent speaker at city and county meetings opposing large-scale developments and the expansion of Lake St. Louis Boulevard. O’Fallon’s Ward 3 includes portions of the city from along both sides of Winghaven Boulevard toward the west, south of Highway N.
In Ward 4, incumbent Jim Ottomeyer is being challenged by Amanda Taylor. Ward 4 includes portions of the city from west of Bryan Road toward the east and Highway K.
The only incumbent council member running, who did not draw a challenger for election day, is Debbie Cook. She narrowly lost a county council seat in August, and is running for re-election in Ward 5.
