Who and where: From left Josh Schneider of Colorado, Jimmy Flotken of St. Louis, John Flotken of St. Louis and Benjamin Flotken of St. Louis standing at Mount Everest Base Camp, 17,500 elevation.
The trip: John Flotken, his sons and nephew spent nine days hiking.
Travel tip: Physical training is very important for this hike but the unknown is the extreme elevation. It affects everyone differently. Even the best of athletes can struggle. We witnessed many people who couldn’t handle the altitude and were helicoptered off.
