Lafayette senior outside hitter Maya Witherspoon is the Post-Dispatch All-Metro girls volleyball player of the year for the second season in a row.
All-Metro girls volleyball first team
Hannah Leftridge, senior, St. Pius X
Leftridge, a returning All-Metro first teamer, had 10 kills and 25 digs in the Class 4 state championship match to lead the Lancers to their fourth state title. She averaged 3.1 kills per set and led St. Pius with 57 aces and 345 digs. The 5-foot-10 outside hitter plans to move to libero when she decides on several NCAA Division I offers.

Danielle Moore, senior, Francis Howell
The 6-foot-1 outside hitter was the go-to offensive option as the Vikings reached the state semifinals for the second consecutive season. Moore was the focus of opponents’ blocking schemes but still averaged 5.98 kills per set by using a variety of shots and a high volleyball IQ. The Wichita State signee had 30 aces and 163 digs.
Reagan Nelson, senior, Pattonville
Nelson, a 6-foot outside hitter, capped stellar career by averaging 7.6 kills a set while often facing double and even triple blocks. A perennial All-Metro performer, Nelson finished her career as the state’s all-time kills leader with 2,143 kills to go along with 1,544 digs and 306 aces. Signed with Southeast Missouri State University.
Addie Nenninger, junior, Mater Dei
A 5-foot-10 left-handed setter, Nenninger ran Knights’ offense to near perfection as the team repeated as Class 2A state champions, the ninth overall for the Breese-based school. Was voted state tournament MVP for second successive season. Averaged 9.4 assists per set, had a team-high 47 aces, 181 digs, 128 kills and 63 blocks.
Shaye Witherspoon, sophomore, Lafayette
Along with older sister Maya formed one of the most potent one-two offensive forces in the area as Lancers won their third consecutive Class 6 state championship and ninth overall. A 6-foot-3 outside hitter, Shaye put down team-high 4.5 kills and averaged .94 blocks per set. Witherspoon also had 38 aces with a powerful jump serve.
Ellie Witthaus, senior, Incarnate Word
The heart and soul of the Red Knights this season, Witthaus led the team through her intense competitiveness. A 5-foot-11 outside hitter, Witthaus averaged a team-high 4.7 kills a set, served up 49 aces and was a leader on Incarnate Word’s serve receive while recording 259 digs. Signed with Maryville University.
All-Metro girls volleyball second team
Maddy Bach, senior, Parkway West
The 5-foot-9 Bach averaged 9.46 assists per set, including 35 in a regular-season sweep of Class 6 champion Lafayette. She also had team-high 56 aces and 242 digs. Signed with Memphis University.
Zoe Baliva, senior, St. Joseph’s
A 6-foot-1 outside hitter, Baliva averaged 4.9 kills, blasted team-high 31 aces, was a leader in serve receive and had 186 digs. Signed with Florida State to play beach volleyball.
Ella Diercks, senior, Mater Dei
Diercks, a 6-foot outside hitter, recorded double-digit kills in 10 different matches for repeat Class 2A state champions. Averaged 3.3 kills and .48 blocks per set. Signed with Truman State.
Avery Helms, senior, Francis Howell
The 5-foot-7 defensive dynamo kept sure kills off floor and turned those situations into offense for Class 5 state semifinal team. She had 715 digs and served team-high 58 aces. Signed with Marquette.
Brytn Lyon, senior, St. Dominic
Lyon, a 6-foot-1 setter, led a potent Crusaders team to 27 victories. She averaged 8.4 assists and 1.2 kills per set while recording 182 digs and 56 aces. Signed with Texas Tech.
Bennett Raterman, junior, St. Pius X
Domininant 6-foot-4 middle blocker led Lancers with 3.1 kills per set. Committed to Florida State, she averaged .81 stuffs a set and served 37 aces. Was dominant in Class 4 state title match with 20 kills.
All-Metro girls volleyball third team
Avery Boehm, junior, Mascoutah
The 5-foot-11 outside hitter led Mascoutah to the Class 3A super-sectional. Averaged 4.26 kills a set, served36 aces, was a leader in serve receive and recorded 175 digs.
Jenna Cubbage, senior, Eureka
A 6-foot outside hitter, Cubbage helped Wildcats to a late-season surge after a slow start. A Wichita State recruit, she averaged 4.39 kills, served 54 aces and had 258 digs.
Katleyn Diani-O’Day, Sr., Lutheran SC
The 5-foot-9 Missouri Western signee averaged 8.18 assists and had 75 aces in leading the Cougars to third-place finish in Class 4. A four-year starter, she finished fourth all-time in Missouri with 3,540 assists.
Elena Ruble, junior, St. Pius X
A returning All-Metro performer, Ruble ran Lancers’ high-powered offense to perfection. The 5-foot-7 setter led the area with 11.26 assists per set while serving 46 aces and recording 191 digs.
Sydney Schulte, senior, Hermann
A 5-foot 8 outside hitter, Schulte helped Bearcats to their ninth consecutive and 40th overall final four. New College of Florida recruit averaged 3.07 kills, had 36 aces and had 121 digs.
Megan Wood, senior, Jefferson
University of Tennessee–Martin signee led the Blue Jays to Class 2 state quarterfinals. The 5-foot-10 outside hitter averaged 4.82 kills, had 25 aces and put up team-high 337 digs.
