Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium has been the Spring Training home of the St. Louis Cardinals since 1998 and the Miami Marlins since 2003. It is marketed as “America’s Busiest Ballpark” given it is the Spring Training home of two MLB organizations plus their Single-A affiliates in the Florida State League.
Between Feb. 22 and March 23, the Cardinals are back for Spring Training and will play a total of 19 games with 15 home games and four road games against the Miami Marlins at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. It’s safe to say that “America’s Busiest Ballpark” is about to get busy again.
“Spring Training is one of the most unique entertainment experiences in sports,” said Mike Bauer, general manager of Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. “It’s rare to see professional athletes up this close for such an extended period of time.”
In Jupiter, Florida, fans have an even more unique experience of getting to watch two MLB operations in the St. Louis Cardinals and the Miami Marlins. Practices and scrimmages are constantly being held on the 12 practice fields behind Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium. It is also the best time to take pictures with the players and coaches, as well as grab some autographs.
“The access that the fans have to players and coaches is another amazing perk of having Major League Spring Training here in Jupiter,” said Bauer. “We also have our VIP Batting Experience packages that offer another way to get close to the players and get a glimpse of the pregame warmups. February and March is the ideal time to come to the complex and make those memories and add to collections.”
Returning this season all across Major League Baseball is the second annual “Spring Breakout” games featuring the top prospects in every organization facing each other. The top prospects of the Cardinals and Marlins will face each other on Friday, March 14. First pitch for that game will be announced at a later date.
“This is a really cool initiative by MLB to put the game’s top young talent in front of the fans,” said Bauer. “Last year, we had two of these games, which gave our fans a great taste of the elite prospects that will one day be part of Major League Spring Training.”
It isn’t just the baseball that people come down to Florida for, but also the tourist spots most people only experience in the summer. The ballpark is surrounded by lots of local businesses in the neighborhood of Abacoa. With just a short drive, fans can go to the beach or local parks. Plus, lots of great restaurants offer outdoor seating so people can enjoy the meal and the weather.
“Cardinals baseball is a huge reason why people come down to Jupiter. But once you’re here, you realize that there is so much more to experience. Spring Training trips are really an encompassing experience for everyone,” said Bauer.
While all the extra activities are a plus, it’s tough to beat taking in a ball game. “You can’t beat sitting down, eating a hot dog, drinking a beer and taking in a Spring Training game in the beautiful South Florida weather,” said Bauer. “This year, we are going to make the fan experience even better and we are putting in the work to accomplish that, so you’ll just have to come to the ballpark to see it.”
