COLLINSVILLE — Devin C. Smart, 26, of St. Louis, died when he was struck by a tractor-trailer truck after he got out of his vehicle on Interstate 55 in Collinsville, authorities said.
The Madison County coroner's office said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene at about 12:15 a.m. Thursday.
The coroner's office did not say why Smart had left his vehicle. The case was under investigation by the coroner's office and the Illinois State Police.
The coroner's office said Smart lived on Eads Avenue, which is in St. Louis' Gate District neighborhood.
