Founded in 1851 and situated picturesquely on an 86-acre campus in the charming town of Fulton, Missouri, Westminster College is a private, four-year college that is consistently ranked prestigiously by U.S. News & World Report as the only National Liberal Arts College in the state. Westminster also is a Forbes Best Value College.
At Westminster, students find the intensive focus and clarity to become the world leaders of tomorrow.
A personalized four-year plan for each student
Westminster’s mission is to educate and inspire each of its students through a distinctive curriculum and dynamic developmental experience. Each day, students are challenged to be critically aware, lifelong learners. Through Westminster’s dynamic curriculum, 29 majors, 40+ minors and a variety of pre-professional programs, students undergo a transformative journey during their education.
Transformation takes place through a comprehensive Four-Year Plan that is tailored to each individual. Through this plan, students develop into leaders in a global community. The Four-Year Plan includes advising, tutoring, resume building, career planning/mock interviews and even assistance with graduate school applications — all through their comprehensive Student Success Center that opened in September 2020.
“A wonderful school in my home state” – former U.S. President Harry S. Truman
In 1946, President Harry Truman was so impressed by Westminster College’s reputation, he dashed off a quick note to former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill: “This is a wonderful school in my home state. Hope you can do it. I will introduce you. Regards, Harry S Truman.” Truman’s warm invitation led to an iconic chapter in world history, when the British Bulldog delivered his world-famous “Iron Curtain” speech from Westminster’s historic gymnasium.
Since that time, the foundation of Westminster’s core value of leadership was solidified. Today the college consistently attracts an incredible array of world-renowned leaders for a variety of campus lectures. It is not uncommon for students to meet senators, former presidents, current or retired generals, admirals or intelligence officers throughout their four years at the college. Past and recent speakers include former presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and Gerald Ford; former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright; U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders; and Jeh Johnson, former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security.
Vibrant student life experience
Westminster students experience unique, close interaction with faculty through a 10-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio. Academically, their students are provided ample opportunities for graduate-level research, travel, field studies and internships: opportunities often not found at larger institutions.
Socially, Westminster is a vibrant community with a family feel. They offer lively Student Life programs in a caring campus environment, with more than 200 campus-sponsored activities per year. The college boasts 50 clubs and organizations, six fraternities, three sororities and 18 NCAA Division III Blue Jays sports teams. There is something for everyone at Westminster College!
The charming town of Fulton
Westminster College is situated in the heart of Fulton, a town of approximately 12,000 people ranked recently by the Wall Street Journal as one of the “10 Most Intriguing Travel Destinations” and by Budget Travel as one of the “10 Coolest Small Towns in America.”
Fulton is known for its rich history, brick-lined streets, boutique shops and locally owned restaurants. A historic part of Westminster’s campus catches people’s attention from across the globe. Built as a monument to Winston Churchill’s world-famous “Iron Curtain” speech, America’s National Churchill Museum is composed of the 17th century Church of St. Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury, which was shipped stone by stone from England and carefully rebuilt on campus based on original specifications by architect Sir Christopher Wren.
Small in size, big on results
Simply put, Westminster is small in size but big on results. As a result of Westminster’s unique, personalized approach to educating each student, the college ranks in the top 15% for graduate earnings and boasts a 98% placement rate in jobs or graduate school within six months of graduation.
Westminster’s historic reputation for excellence is so long-enduring that today they're bucking national enrollment trends: Since 2019, applications for admission have doubled, and this fall, the college welcomed the largest class in five years.
Their alumni success stories speak for themselves. Their graduates are found in key positions throughout the globe ― they are CEOs and CFOs of major corporations, attorneys, educators, judges, journalists, politicians, poets, Hollywood executives and specialized physicians, to name just a few professions.
